Indian Bike Industry
Indian bike industry has many segments. You can buy auto gear two wheeler scooters, economy bike, performance bikes, premium bikes and super premium bikes in India. These bikes spread over entry level CD Dawn to super premium Harleys and Indian bikes.
I am putting some quick facts about this industry. These are based upon internet search and available forums. There is a chance that you may find it stale or even wrong, although i am putting my best effort to verify the facts.
It only covers the 100-200 CC segment bikes and it excludes scooter and premium bike segments.
Quick facts about bike industry in India
History :
•Bajaj started importing two wheelers in India from Vespa in 1948.
•In mid 1980s foreign manufacturers started their operations in India. Till then Rajdoot, Escorts and Enfield were the only players.
•During 1955-1969, the only models sold were Royal Enfield 350cc and Yezdi 250cc. This continued till 1980.
•In 1981, TVS with Suzuki formed Ind-Suzuki 100cc, Bajaj with Kawasaki formed Kawasaki Bajaj 100cc and Escorts with Yamaha brought Yamaha RX 100. This is when Hero Majestic ltd entered in a joint venture with Honda and manufactured legendary Hero Honda 100 cc bike.
