Biscuits industry in India:

Recently we were having a discussion on the latest trend in the biscuit industry as all the major players were launching new biscuits and shelves in all hyper markets were full with similar kind of biscuits from all brands. Previously we had few specific offerings from each brand like Parle G and good day or 50-50 and Crackjack. But now you see every brand has a similar kind, packing and taste biscuit in their offerings. Hers is a list of biscuits offered by all the major four players in market;

As per the data shown above, Britannia and Parle are neck to neck followed by Sunfeast, Priyagold and Anmol. You may feel surprised to see Anmol in the list but it is a very famous biscuit in the eastern and northern region of India specially West Bengal and UP.

Few noticeable factors about Indian Biscuit industry;

1.       Close to 2/3rd of the market is in the organized sector and 1/3rd  still belongs to unorganized sector promoting local brands and bakeries

2.       Total organized sector is close to 8000 Crores.

3.       India is third in biscuit production after USA and China and its penetration is 85% in Urban and 55% in rural areas.

4.       All four regions of India have almost equal distribution of Biscuit consumption, though East is marginally ahead with 28% consumption. North consumes 25%, South 24% and West consumes 23 % of total production.
